Founder Story
Hey! I'm Mel of Mountain Mel's, and it's mighty fine to meet you! The seed for Mountain Mel's was planted in the early 2000s when I was a backpacking guide and wilderness therapist. I found people paying me hundreds of dollars to walk them through the woods, my sacred spaces, my church. Yet, these people were carrying backpacks and first aid kits full of nasty toxic products. These products were not only polluting their bodies, but they were polluting my sacred places, our planet, and it chapped my hide! So, I started reading about natural options for first aid, making products, slingin' them around my Mount Hood Community, then to farmer's markets, then to stores. It fuelled my fire to learn more about herbal medicine, so for the past 9 years, I've immersed myself in the study, which is thankfully a never-ending study, and I'm now trained as a clinical herbalist. During this time of life, I was also a bartender, having a blast, and making great cocktails for people. I found everyone coming to me to make them a special blend of tea for whatever was ailing them, and one day someone asked why I wasn't selling them at the markets, and so I did. I've found I've got a special gift of dancing the medicinal properties of plants with their flavor profiles, and I can make herbal medicine not only work great but taste great! So, that's what I do! I make herbal products people can feel good about putting in and on their bodies. Oh, and I hike, and mountain bike, and raft, and dance, and play drums, and sing, and walk my 3 doggies, and play outside with my beautiful daughter, and snuggle my partner, and live in the foothills of Mount Hood! Yup, that's me, and I'd love to learn more about you!
