In 2017, our founder, Dawn Lancaster’s 83-year-old mom received her 5th life-threatening diagnosis, Parkinson’s Disease on top of Alzheimer’s Disease. The cause is unknown, but skincare was mom’s only vice. Dawn knew there had to be a better, cleaner, more affordable option.

TODAY'S PURE ENERGY APOTHECARY

At the helm is mom, herbalist, aromatherapist, and 30-yr seasoned entrepreneur, Dawn Lancaster. Dawn’s daughter Sarah, and niece Michaela round out the Pure Leadership Team.

Co-founder Sarah, with a BS in management, innovation, entrepreneurship & international business is our multi-talented Business Generalist, a natural entrepreneur, and a dedicated social impact advocate.

Operations Manager and niece, Michaela, with a BS in nutrition and food sciences, is passionate about ingredients and function. She is lifelong artist she cares deeply about skincare, and aesthetics.

Rounding out the Pure Leadership Team is Pawsitivity Officer, Mötley. Michaela's beloved Greater Swiss baby is not even 2 years old and oversees all office morale, lunchroom supervision, and daily play breaks with Mötley's Crew.

Founder Story
A personal note from our CEO:

My late mom, Shirley, was the oldest of 5 girls raised on a Vermont dairy farm in the 1930s. She joined the Marines during the Korean War. Her civilian life began in the 1950s as a wife of a sailor, a beloved mother, and a homemaker. Mom survived breast cancer twice, skin cancer multiple times, lung cancer, and at 83 years old suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. As her main care provider, I couldn’t help but ask, without a genetic history of these diseases, what environmental impacts have created so much disease (food, skincare, sun exposure, air quality, water quality)?

I looked deeper into mom’s only vice, skincare, and I consistently found reports that 60% to 70% of what we apply to our skin, our largest organ, may reach our bloodstream in 26 seconds or less. While that statistic may vary from person to person, product to product, and skin condition to skin condition, we do know that what we apply on our skin can reach our airways through inhalation, and can be absorbed by our bloodstream. Imagine the anger I felt when I researched the ingredients of mom's skincare products and found carcinogens, parabens, formaldehyde, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), petrolatum, endocrine and hormone disruptors, phthalates, and more toxins than I could count. With this new knowledge, I realized we had to do better. Looking for cleaner, safer skincare products was more difficult than I realized. I discovered they weren't available where we shopped every day (grocery, pharmacies, department stores). I could find them at home parties, higher-end boutiques, and online with fancy brands however the products were over-priced and not always cleaner. As a seasoned entrepreneur, I had a new mission because no one should have to compromise quality for price, everyone deserves access to food for the skin! Creating Pure Energy Apothecary was my answer to all that I wish my late mom had access to.

As a self-funded, woman-owned business we could also make the entrepreneurial choice to offer premium organic ingredients, effective and versatile formulations with prices suitable for everyday use. So we did!
