Lucky Dog Design Co.

Lucky Dog Design Co. is a fun and playful greeting card shop based out of Lexington, KY. Lucky Dog specializes in illustration-based designs with the intention of bringing a smile to someone's face through puns and thoughtful messages. The goal is to reinvigorate the #snailmailrevolution by breaking through the 2D world of screens and bringing something tangible into people's lives.

Lucky Dog is co-owned by Kayla and Odin. Kayla designs and assembles all cards herself, drawing inspiration from explorations, textiles, movement and nature. Odin is Chief Mail Sniffer and the face of Lucky Dog. The border collie black lab pup guards the door each day and sniffs every package and letter to come into the office. He is also responsible for sniffing each package going out the door to make sure it leaves in perfect condition. Odin draws his inspiration from his daily walks, Roofles and butterflies.

All cards are folded, 5"x 7" felt style for a unique size and texture with a colorful euro flap envelope included. There is no messaging on the inside, allowing the sender to craft the perfect note to the recipient.

As Kayla grew up, she spent her summers crafting greeting cards, scrapbooks and all things paper with the most creative woman she knows—her grandma. To this day, she still does a little happy dance when a card from her grandma ends up in her mailbox.

Kayla's design is rooted in typography, as her design journey started in newspaper journalism. Working in small newspapers as a journalist, you have to wear all hats—writer, photographer, designer, etc. Eight years ago while working at the paper, a friend asked her if she could design her wedding invitations, and she accepted. She found so much joy in stretching her creativity and designing the perfect stationery to fit a couple's personality, but also the flow of assembling paper goods. One thing led to another and she found an intense passion for designing greeting cards. With her roots in crafting snail mail, she couldn't resist the pull of creating something that brightens someone's day.

When she isn't designing or assembling cards, Kayla is probably hula hooping (@accio_hoop on Instagram for an example). Hooping has taken her all over the world, where she finds so much inspiration and creativity.
