Howl Mercantile and Adventure Outpost

Howl Mercantile - Kimi Uno (owner)

Howl Mercantile & Coffee is an experiential retail environment offering small batch artisanal goods and a home to an intersectional creative community. We proudly serve an assortment of coffee beverages in partnership with our roaster, Corvus Coffee, from Denver. Since its inception, Howl has always stood as a cry against oppression, subjugation, and late stage capitalism. We envision our space as a marketplace for artists and makers trying to bypass modern day capitalism and financially support themselves through their passion and small businesses.

Adventure Outpost by Howl is located across the street from the Mercantile and is a supplier of outdoor gear and apparel and located in beautiful Salida, Colorado.

Founder Story
Kimiko Uno was born and raised in Washington State and spent 20+ years in corporate retail. She moved to Colorado for a job opportunity in 2006 and never looked back. After being laid off from her job in 2015, she and her husband decided to relocate their family to Salida, Colorado. Located 2.5 hours from Denver in the mountains of Southwest Colorado, Salida used to be their weekend getaway. “We noticed a different kind of freedom amongst the kids and a connection in the community that called to us. In 2016, we moved here permanently and opened the shop as well as an attached AirBnB apartment that is available for visitors. We take our kids, Cedar & Lake, into the nearby wilderness as much as possible so they can grow up camping, skiing, mountain biking and just being free.”
