Inspiro Tequila

Inspiro Tequila is a clean, additive-free, ultra-premium tequila brand crafted with a discerning female consumer in mind. The company was founded by Mara Smith, a mom of three and a former attorney in Chicago, who started drinking tequila when she was looking for a "better-for-you" adult beverage. Mara discovered that all of the tequilas she was drinking contained undisclosed additives, like sweeteners, glycerin and coloring, so she set out to create a smooth and sippable 100% Blue Weber Agave tequila without any additives. The goal was not just to offer impeccable tequilas, but it was also to bring more female perspectives to the spirits industry by having women involved in every step of the process. Inspiro Tequila is proudly distilled, owned and by women. They are also a Certified B Corp as a social impact company for their commitment to elevating women in business.

Founder(s), CEO and/or President Mara Smith
Mara began her legal career at a large law firm in Chicago before joining the corporate strategy team at a Fortune 500 Company. After her twins were born prematurely, Mara decided to leave the corporate world to focus on her family.

She never stopped thinking about what was next. In 2020 Mara followed her passion – and her dream of starting her own company – to create a new tequila brand.

Why tequila? Long her spirit of choice, for years Mara had searched for a tequila that fit into her healthier lifestyle, one that was additive-free, with a look, taste, and messaging that appealed to her and thoughtful female consumers like her. That perfect tequila simply did not exist, so she decided to create one. Inspiro Tequila was born with a vision to redefine what it means to enjoy tequila, but equally important to Mara was the opportunity to create a spirit brand crafted and led by women (in a typically male-dominated industry).

As a female founder, her mission is to give back to other women who are following their own passion. This was the inspiration and vision behind the Inspiro Purple Bicycle Project, created to financially support and mentor female founders, enabling them to get their businesses started, manage the bumps along the way, and move forward to follow their dreams.
