Founder Story In preparation for a year of backpacking in 2016, Mary, our CEO and co-founder, searched high and low for a travel towel that would last the entire year, require minimal space in her pack, dry quickly, and stay odor-free. She had recently thrown out an old microfiber towel vowing to never buy another.
While researching alternative travel towel materials, she soon discovered that linen, from the flax plant, was the perfect material. It’s quick to dry, highly absorbent, antimicrobial,
and ultra-durable.
After a failed attempt to find a well-crafted, nicely weighted and sustainably sourced linen towel, she and her mother created what turned out to be the perfect towel.
It quickly became a favorite, must-have travel item. Within one month of traveling, Mary called up her mom and sister and asked them to join her in bringing this towel to market because she knew of so many fellow adventurers who would absolutely love it! Thus, Lava Linens was born.
