Symbiosis Gear

Symbiosis Gear is a women-owned company dedicated to revolutionizing backpacking gear for women. We design gear that accommodates a diverse range of body types, making outdoor adventures more accessible and enjoyable for women.
Women face a stark shortage of backpacking gear tailored specifically for them. Issues like boob squish and movement restrictions are far too common. We're on a mission to change that! Our first product, a frameless ultralight backpack, addresses these fit challenges head-on, and we’ll soon expand to include a framed backpack and a multi-purpose day pack.

Sarah Berkeley started Symbiosis Gear to meet the gear needs of women backpackers, especially in the ultralight space. While hiking the 2650-mile Pacific Crest Trail in 2019, she became frustrated with the lack of options for ultralight backpacks that fit her. She bought and used three different backpacks while on the PCT and none of them fit well. She contacted one ultralight backpack company and asked if they would consider making a small alteration to their pack design so that it would work for women and they did not even reply to her message. She doesn’t want other women backpackers to experience the discomfort, extra expense, and discrimination that she did so she started Symbiosis Gear to specifically cater to the needs of women backpackers. Symbiosis Gear is focused on lessening the disparity between the gear options available to women and men. Symbiosis Gear is here to make that a reality. We know that providing high-quality gear that fits will make backpacking more accessible and enjoyable for women thus building more diversity in the backpacking world.
