Like many small businesses, Wombat grew out of a personal need. When Laramie got pregnant in 2021, she wondered what coat she was going to wear when the temps in Fairbanks, Alaska—she and Eric’s home—hit below freezing. Eric, using the sewing skills he learned at his real job (this is a side gig!) sewed Laramie an insert for her ‘puffy’ coat and shorts and her nordic ski pants. Laramie was able to comfortably keep getting outside in frigid temps to mush, ski, and otherwise adventure until she gave birth to their son in February of 2022.
Laramie loved the insert so much and they received so much interest in it around town that they decided to make a few more. Wombat Loftworks was born. We called our son "the womb-bat” in utero, hence the name!
